Miguel Abascal: [00:00:00] Awesome. So how is everything? I think this is our we're number four. session.
Avinash: Number four. Yeah. I agree with the recordings number three, but then yes, I believe in total number four.
Miguel Abascal: Yeah. You're right. So, um, how is everything, what has happened since the last time we saw each other?
Avinash: Absolutely. And I think, uh, it'll just reiterating your saying uh, your one specific statement.
Uh, it w it is not about if it is about, uh, [00:01:00] when, and, uh, with that I would want to, you know, bring in this good news that are actually landed a role oh, yeah. Yes. And, uh, the role is of a product manager, uh, something that I've been aiming at for quite awhile. And, uh, it's amazing. Uh, I, uh, I just got the news like a day back, so I thought I would quickly set up this call as soon as possible with you.
And then have, have you noticed kind of sharing this amazing news with you?
Miguel Abascal: Oh, wow. Congratulations super happy for you. That was something that you were looking for
Avinash: absolutely. And I can't thank you enough, to be honest. And again, I've, I've kind of, uh, you know, like to follow everything you kept telling me and, you know, everything I say, say it in a matter of a story so that it does kind of, uh, you know, uh, Something exciting for the, the person at the other end to listen to it as well.
So I've kind of followed a lot in terms of that strategy and, and, uh, and [00:02:00] I keep, I kind of keep thinking for that very same statement when you kept saying it is not about if you get a little bit stressed about when and. Uh, in, in total, it's been about, uh, 21 months of struggle and, and, uh, mentally exhausting.
And, you know, it definitely hit your confidence, but, uh, I kind of started developing my confidence little better with every, every discussion we had. I knew that I would give my next interview in a much better way. And, uh, this actually resulted in something positive and that I want to bring in this news.
Miguel Abascal: No, thank you. This is like music to my ears. I'm super excited. So tell me what do you think it was the, the, the biggest factor that allowed you to get this opportunity to land this job that you were looking for.
Avinash: Absolutely. I think the first thing was I just was myself. Uh, you know, I, I just let, let the whole thought process of [00:03:00] always given so many interviews and I still haven't gotten, I've just kept that aside.
I went with a fresh mind. I went with my energy. Yeah. I think one of the biggest deciding factors they did highlight was they were like something that really made you stand out was their energy and your eagerness to learn. And, uh, I think, uh, I tried to be myself and I think, uh, that's, that's the most important thing.
And, uh, definitely, uh, and, and I, I literally have no words to say, but then, uh, it's just, uh, You know, just to be myself itself is such a it's. It was such a hard task, or to overcome that situation of multiple rejections for the last one and a half year. So, uh, you know how much it would I say, uh, uh, you know, I can't thank you enough.
Every every time we had our call, right from the first call onwards, even from the books that you've told me to read through your, like, all of these have helped me so much. And, and you know, and that's that's of the business. I wanted to have this call, you know, [00:04:00] because I, I. Uh, everything that you've done for me, you know, I just want to thank you for that.
And, and w with that, uh, you know, I kind of want to it all, or, you know, if I told you it works out, I would definitely love to, uh, wanting tour of it, open mentoring and, and kind of help people future, you know, I received this help and. It is right to do the right thing to do is pass on that help in a passing that knowledge to the people who are looking forward.
So you think, uh, that's, that's something that I wanted to bring in and let them know.
Miguel Abascal: That's incredible. Yeah. Once you go through that process, Uh, you mentioned almost two years of hardships and working in and potentially survival jobs. So yeah, definitely. I do. I can, you can not see how, how happy I am.
That was fast. That was fast. And they think
Avinash: of, and I think to be very honest, uh, began, and [00:05:00] this is, uh, I think, uh, a very honest to, you know, I wouldn't say feedback, but a pretty honest response from my end. Is, I've gone through multiple, uh, mentoring sessions, multiple, uh, you know, uh, networking sessions and attending seminars and how to network with people, how to speak, how to interview, but, uh, I think the biggest, uh, you know, uh, example I can give is we've had four calls and, uh, that itself has made such a big difference that, uh, uh, I have no words, pictures to be very honest and, and, uh, you know, it's, it's, uh, it, it.
There's three, three calls of us having made itself made it such a big difference because I've been looking for a job for one and a half year, almost two years. And these few calls kind of prepared me mentally in how to approach interviews. And I think that's, that's definitely helped me a lot. [00:06:00] And. Again, I all majority, I really can't.
Thank you enough. You know, it's definitely a very big difference in my life to finally land a role. And you brought that change for me. So I can't thank you enough for this and that's it, you know, like thank you so much.
Miguel Abascal: Oh, I'm super, I'm super happy, man. Like, uh, yeah. I want to say, I want to study with worry because I didn't hear about from you like, um, the last couple of weeks, but I was thinking like, well maybe, maybe something good.
Maybe. And now you bring this news finally. Yes. All good. Oh, that's awesome. That's awesome. So tell me a little bit more about the interview. What do you think it was the key, the key difference.
Avinash: I think the first, uh, first interview was, uh, more of the senior management, trying to understand if I would be a good fit or good role, [00:07:00] they kind of wanted to, uh, just talk in general, just kind of thing to see if I would be a good cultural fit.
So that was a good conversation, which happened for like an hour and immediately after a couple of days, they'll post me for a second round, which would be a case study around. So it was a small case study. It was a challenging case study. Uh, and I had to present it to around four to five people as a panel.
So I kind of presented that and that would be followed by like at least 20 to 25 minutes of questions. On the presentation. And after that was done, the final session was just interview questions from the panel, like from everyone who was in the panel, they just gave me really interview and behavioral based questions.
How would I respond? And at the end of the, at the end of the interpretations asked me that, well, you have the right to give us more elevator pitch. What would you send about yourself? It. It all, everything that we practiced, everything that we highlighted, it was a very honest, [00:08:00] uh, I don't know if you'd be able to see in the camera, but, um, these are all the things that we've been writing about after all the discussions.
And, and this is the speech that I'd prepared for, for you know to speak at the end of the interview. So I think that kind of way we have we a lot in terms of preparing and how do I deliver even the presentation in a very storytelling format. And I think that was a key point for me. And, uh, those are the things that kind of, I think, stood out from your end and as well, uh, precisely, you know, them highlighting that, uh, you're even as to what's something that was only highlighted in the interview, but at the same time you brought in that energy.
So I think, uh, you know, that those, those were definitely what the key elements. That's awesome.
Miguel Abascal: I could see your confidence transformed within these three, four sessions. Yeah, definitely. You are like a complete different person. And now that we're speaking, it's like you are you [00:09:00] finally, you are you again?
That's incredible. And these, journey this, jouney is like it's just beginning because you just landed the first meaningful job within your Canadians, um, journey. So that's, that's awesome. Okay. I have, I have so many other tips to you for. So have a great, uh, first 90 days connect with your manager.
So we can, we can discuss more if you want in the future. Yeah, definitely. Well, I'm super happy. He's like, uh, well, how, what a great way to finish this day just with this new. That's Awesome.
Avinash: Okay. I, to be honest, I can't thank you enough, you know, uh, uh, I just wanted to, you know, kind of bring in and kind of appreciate all the help you've given me.
So thank you so much. And I, I still want to be a part of this journey. I still want to be a part of, you know, our journey as a mentee and mentor. And at [00:10:00] the same time, you know, kind of going forward, help people who are kind of going through the same journey. So, uh, I'm, I'm all about, you know, uh, kind of trying to give back what I received from you.
So thank you. No, I know
Miguel Abascal: what he's like. I think to your point is it's, um, it's a perfect time to share these good news because whenever you share good news, it just amplifies and multiplies with everybody. So yeah, everybody that contributed to your journey know because everybody is not celebrate with you.
That's
Avinash: awesome.
Miguel Abascal: Yeah. Anything else that you want us to, to talk or that you want us to cover?
Avinash: Right. Right, right now I'm kind of very super excited right now about this whole journey, but then definitely not coming and getting back on a serious note, getting back to your points about, uh, you know, how the journey could take place for the first 60 days of the first 90 days
I definitely want to kind of block a separate session with you and actually go, go to that session as well. [00:11:00] And, uh, you know, this was, uh, this was just about you wanting to bring in the news for you. So,
Miguel Abascal: yeah, I agree. Like let's just celebrate end up with a high note and definitely we can, we can book again and then we can just.
Uh, work on the specifics of what is going through your game plan. How was it going to be your communication strategy? How are you going to be approaching your key players? How to identify who are the people that, um, then you need to like, listen more follow understanding the politics so much to talk, man, and then, and different programs that I would like to recommend you to remember the business Edge program from Rotman.
I think that still applies so much. So definitely I
Avinash: you look in the back one. Absolutely. Absolutely. I think that was the first, that was the first link you shared and , you know, I, and right now I'm just having this course that I'm going to keep doing, but then I definitely have, I definitely have my own that in [00:12:00] as soon as I'm done this course, I'm definitely looking forward to that one as well.
Absolutely.
Miguel Abascal: So when do you start.
Avinash: Uh, it will be the 9th of May. So, uh, in about, in about two weeks. So, uh, uh, it is exciting because they, they, they asked if I had to give some notice period in my retail work. So I did tell them that even though I'm a part-time associate, I actually have a lot of responsibilities, so I wouldn't want to leave immediately.
Is it fine? So they were like, uh, We respect you know, you're disciplined to actually give it two weeks notice even for the retail store. So yeah, that was, that was a nice thing from them, uh, for them actually, you know, agreeing to that fact. So I kind of looking forward, it's an exciting work environment that I am definitely looking forward to
Miguel Abascal: what is going to be the industry where you are going to be,
Avinash: uh, yeah, it will be healthcare software.
So there, uh, uh, the [00:13:00] one reason I'm super excited is so back in December when I was contacting COVID, uh, I kind of, that was my first or your life experience with health care industry in Canada. And, you know, there'll be, I was taken care of. I, I that's, when I decided that I want to aim at the health industry or. Bringing something meaningful now there and I'm getting a product manager role in that industry that I was aiming that is, uh, you know, it's super exciting and very significant for me.
And it's a very meaningful, uh, position for me. Uh, you know, I want to contribute back, uh, in terms of some bring in something really meaningful. And healthcare is something that, you know, is always very meaningful. Uh, it's a, it's a very precious thing. So, uh, I kind of really excited and I definitely look forward to that.
Miguel Abascal: Oh man. Well, yeah, all the best. I know you're going to. Do amazing in that job. So super [00:14:00] happy for you. How much enjoy this two weeks, enjoy all this process. Let's connect again, and then let's work
Avinash: on. Absolutely, absolutely. And I, once again, and I can't thank you enough, but then, uh, thank you so much for everything, you know, uh, and, uh, definitely.
I, I still want to be a part of, uh, open mentoring and, and adult Def definitely be a part of it. Yeah. You know, I share my journey with anyone was having a similar challenge.
Miguel Abascal: Perfect. Yeah. Consider it done. Exactly.
Avinash: Absolutely.
